Mr  Snuggles was our first Hedgehog with Ringworm, a fungal infection. He came in on 26th August 2008 from Hagley. On inspection he had fly strike behind his ear, when I removed the fly eggs his skin also came away. He was in a terrible state. The next day I took him to our vets and over a course of 3 weeks he had to have various injections and needed 4 baths in a special solution to kill the infection. The first bath was done at the vets which we did together as it was a new experience for us both. He tolerated this, as though he knew we were trying to help. Once his scabs and fur came off he looked like a clanger! At home I had to isolate him from the others so he was put outside in a hutch with the heat pad on 24 hours per day as he only weighed 197 grams. After weeks of care and attention and good food he recovered from his ordeal and was
released back into the garden where he came from on September 24th 2008 weighing 737 grams. As of 7th November Mr Snuggles is still living in his Hedgehog house, he is seen every night taking the same route around the garden and still eats all his food which is put out by Anna, hopefully he will hibernate successfully this coming winter and go on to breed next year. The cost of helping Mr Snuggles was nearly £70 with vet’s bills, medication and food, so I would like to say a Big Thank You to everyone who kindly helps by donating money, items to sell at car boot sales and especially everyone who has bought our knitted hedgehogs as we couldn’t do this without your support.
