Conker came from Stourport on 22nd September weighing only 58 grams. He had been taken to the vets by a lady called Diane, who then contacted me so I went to collect him. Conker has certainly been a challenge. When I first picked him up his eyes were open and his teeth were just beginning to bud, this made him older than I first thought, approximately 3 weeks. He was so small! I had to feed him every 3 hours with milk. For some reason he couldn't digest it properly. After a few days I took him off the milk for 24hrs and just gave him rehydration fluids to see if his tummy would settle. When back on the milk it was the same, he didn’t gain any weight. I started to introduce weaning foods, which helped him to put on a few grams each day. Amongst his favourite foods at present are dried meal worms and apple. I was recently contacted by St Georges C of E Primary School, Kidderminster and asked if I could go and talk to the children about Hedgehogs so I took Conker with me, the children were thrilled to see one so close. Conker has now gained enough weight ( 887 grams) and today (26th November 2008) he has been moved outside into the wildlife area for a couple of nights before been taken to his new home in Bewdley on Friday. We will be supplying a nest box and food so Mark can take care of him until he hibernates. I will truly miss him as he has been such a pleasure to raise.
