Buffy and Angel were
orphaned when their nest was disturbed and they were
abandoned by their mother. At just two weeks old they
were a real test for us. They weighed only 103 and 105
grams respectively. The babies needed to be kept in an
incubator and syringe fed every 3 hours and toileted.
This is normally done by the mother, to encourage them
to wee and poo. If this isn't done, they build up toxins
and it can possibly lead to an early death.
With a lot of perseverance, both hoglets did fine and
were soon big enough to be put into our 'pre release'
pen where they can learn to forage for food and get
acclimatised to a more natural environment.
They have now been released in a beautiful rural
location and are being closely monitored by an animal
lover in Far Forest.
